KOC’s Five-Year MPD Drilling Service Contract

GRANDOIL is pleased to announce that a five-year managed pressure drilling (MPD) service contract was awarded by Kuwait Oil Company (KOC), an epic milestone for GRANDOIL to step into international MPD market. This contract requires the MPD service to be conducted in development wells that may possibly contain H₂S up to 4-5% and CO₂ up to 4% with an anticipated maximum bottom hole static temperature of 330 degrees Fahrenheit and expected surface temperatures between 160 to 220 degrees Fahrenheit. The primary objectives of using MPD in 14000 feet to 15500 feet deep wells are to effectively tackle the challenges associated with the well control situation, partial or full loss of circulation and/or stuck pipe and to minimize the non-productive time.

To satisfy the working environment and to ensure successful and safe operations in the designated areas, GRANDOIL has made every effort to optimize and upgrade all MPD equipment including the MPD choke manifold and rotating control device (RCD) to be capable of handling H₂S≥20% and CO₂≥15%, to provide language training and improve the English communication skills of employees executing MPD drilling operations, and to raise the safety awareness of the overseas team to meet or exceed the safety standards of Kuwait Oil Company through safety training.

All GRANDOIL MPD equipment is designed, engineered and manufactured as per API and other relevant standards. Currently the first set of MPD equipment has been shipped out of China and is on its way to Kuwait city. The operational team is preparing all necessary certificates and documents for civil identification and work visas and will be arriving in Kuwait in the next few weeks. The KOC team will shortly conduct visual inspection of the delivered equipment and witness function and pressure tests at GRANDOIL facility in Kuwait. After that, GRANDOIL equipment and crew will be ready for deployment to rig sites to perform MPD drilling services as requested by KOC.
